Lawson Barnes

- Head of International Field Production

From searching for ancient petroglyphs in the high deserts of the North American Southwest, to photographing the Baird’s Tapir in the tropical rainforests of Central America, odds are that you will find Lawson trekking through one of the planet’s remote, natural wonders.

Walking the mountains of the southern Appalachians as a youth, followed by treks through the Rockies, to multi-week journeys deep into the Utah wilderness, Lawson is a seasoned hiker and backcountry guide. However it was his father’s love for coastal sailing, along with growing up near the beaches and tidal creeks of South & North Carolina that led him to his true passion…the Oceans.

U/W Camera Operator, Licensed Cave Diver, and Dive Master; with 28 years of underwater experience, he has lived the past 8 years traveling Central America and guiding scuba divers through the rich marine environment of Costa Rica’s Pacific coast. With the encouragement and assistance of a friend, he is a self-taught underwater camera operator now enjoying the challenges of filming the natural wonders of our Liquid Planet.

Presently, Lawson resides next to the beach in Costa Rica working as a free-lance dive guide, documenting with video the local marine flora and fauna, and hoping to one day have the opportunity to film that elusive Tapir.
